Songs: Paul McCartney Can Do What He Likes

notes / gigs / releases

In my bathroom for a year
We had a magazine about Macca's solo career
And as I read through
The reprints of contemporary reviews
I noticed, for every single record,
The writer would report
This album is a long awaited return to form
I wondered, could it be, that music journalists are twats?
Or is there a more nuanced explanation than that?
No.
There isn't
Paul McCartney has always been brilliant

Paul McCartney is never wrong
Macca is always right
He's Paul McCartney
He can do what the fuck he likes

The trouble is when Paul McCartney
Thinks "What shall I do next?"
It's never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever
What hipsters expect
Like when Punk Rock was de rigeur
He didn't give a shite
He had a massive worldwide hit with a song full of bagpipes
And charmless wankers will still snigger at
'We All Stand Together' as if it's not
A brilliant hymm to solidarity
That happens to be sung by frogs

Paul McCartney is never wrong
Macca is always right
He's Paul McCartney
He can do what the fuck he likes

Like inventing electronica
Or singing Mary's little lamb
Hanging out with Michael Jackson
Magneto and Titanium Man
Reggae songs about shagging
Or sampling with that bloke
Who used to be the bass player
In The Killing Joke

Ending the album 'McCartney'
With a drum and bow and arrow solo
Managing to get a laugh out of
Elvis Costello

Paul McCartney is never wrong
Macca is always right
He's Paul McCartney
He can do what the fuck he likes

I think 'Flowers In The Dirt''s my favourite
Maybe it's 'Venus And Mars'
'Chaos And Confusion' that's brilliant
So is 'The Liverpool Sound Collage'
Bugger it, stick on 'Red Rose Speedway'
No, let's listen to 'Band On The Run'
I love them all really
Except for the classical ones

Paul McCartney - he can do what he likes

When Joel from The Album Wall put out a call for people to write songs about their favourite albums I immediately a) said ME PLEASE b) commenced arguing with myself about which Macca album I'd choose. In the end I chose ALL of them!
